Visual Dictionary

I really love this visual dictionary (shahi) for finding pictures - it's extensive, beautiful and overall pretty accurate.  Working with kids with learning difficulties illustrating concepts with visual aides is really important.

So I asked the department to unblock the site (portal/applications/internetfilteringwebcheck) for students.  I knew it was a long shot and sure enough they didn't unblock it for students but they did give me some alternatives.

You may find the following sites useful as an alternative:

I found the Merriam Webster dictionary the most useful.  Remember you can still use the shahi but only as a demonstration tool - perhaps on an interactive whiteboard.

Comments:

Hello Concetta I really like this shahi it is new to me but what a great idea a visual dictionary. I use the print ones of these with Kinder for first sounds. It would be great to have a resource like this to use with Early Stage One. I experimented with some Year 5 concepts I explored last term Carbon, water, carbon cycle and photosynthesis. I will play some more.
