Where did me.edu.au come from ...
Many people have been asking about how me.edu.au came about.
Here is a bit more about where the ideas and
innovation project came from and then developed in to what
we now know as me.edu.au :
This particular project came from some innovation work
completed at education.au on a
proof of concept called - myedna. The team focused on the idea
of "watch me learn: discover, express and share my learning
journey". You can find out more about it at http://labs.edna.edu.au/myedna
. This small project sought to address issues educators have
managing life and learning online. As a part of this innovation
work a prototype was developed and demonstrated how this could
be done.
We receive funding from DEEWR to then take the ideas of
this innovation project and get users and stakeholders involved
to develop what is now me.edu.au.
me.edu.au will have future development next financial year (July 08 - so not toooooo long to wait) within the edna project funding. Once again we will be asking our user base in me.edu.au and stakeholders where we should be directing future developments - what is useful for you? As a project team I know we have many ideas and already users have added ideas, suggestions and feedback in the me-edu-au community at: http://me.edu.au/c/me-edu-au. Note: you do need to be a member of this community to contribute a posting. We are monitoring this and collecting ideas as they are added. So please if you have ideas please contribute as it will help shape what me.edu.au will become in the future.
Mark TF also has a blog running on edna futures at: http://me.edu.au/b/marktf/ which he will keep everyone updated - this will include me.edu.au possible direction. There is also a community where you can provide strategic input into edna and me.edu.au's future directions at: http://me.edu.au/c/edna2010 (once again you must add this community as an interest to be able to contribute ideas.
I hope this gives everyone a bit of a look
into the innovation work and process at education.au and
edna.

There have been a range of people discussing how to
get started and become more involved in me.edu.au
Here are some suggestions:
To get started:
Once you are registered what is best to do is certainly set up your profile with as much information that you feel comfortable with. Giving people information about your professional views, interests and ideas is a good place to start. I have to say I like to also but a face or avatar to a name - it makes more connection that the standard me.edu.au profile of a head.
NOW:
-
Login
-
Click on 'Edit my profile' in the menu
bar
-
Add in as much information as you feel comfortable:
There are
7 sub menu items: Basic Information / Contact /
Employment / Education / Image / Feeds /
Notifications
-
especially these particular fields in the 'basic
information' should be added to help people find information about
you and start collaboration:
o About Me - this id displayed in the
"About Me" section on your public profile page. This
gives information about you and is upfront so you dont have to
click the 'view all' to find out more
o Interests - Each professional Interest
becomes a Community. You can check existing interests in
Communities menu before adding interests here. I have interests
added such as: Integrating technology, technology, digital
storytelling, social networking, teaching and learning. The
communities of interest are a great way to find like minded people
and track their online activity.
o The other sub menus that are good to add is
'ËImage' - a digital image / avatar
o Feeds - Feeds are external RSS feeds which
contain
your activity on the web. For instance, if you have a
blog you can enter its RSS feed here and your colleagues will see
your activity. Don't enter a blog produced by someone else,
because entries from it will show up under your name. I have added
my feeds from twitter, del.icio.us, flicker and my blog
Once you have started to add this type of information then
you will start to be more visual and people will start to watch
your professional online activity. You will also be adding
colleagues either via the communities of interest or via the search.
I hope this helps a little for getting started in
me.edu.au once you are ready we of course also have the new
functionality of the blog.

I am to be helping at the ACER and education.au Seminar - Digital Education Revolution today in Melbourne but instead I am stuck in the airport. I will hopefully get there when the fog clears :-(
One learning for today - no matter what - always be early ... plan for airport delays.
I will update you hopefully during the day - I am looking forward to it - once I get there ... Hopefully my day will improve.

me.edu.au will officially launch today. This is an exciting time for the project team to finally see the hard work and vision released.
We did take on a different process for this project to gain what our vision and release plan may be.
1. We invited interested staff from education.au to contribute what are the different web2 systems out there and what are educators using that will help improve their online networking.
2. We went to our stakeholders, edna users and edna friends groups to see what they would want in a web 2 type service and in what priority for the tools.
3. The project team then workshopped the information gathered to put together the project requirements and vision.
This was a great way to work and we stopped after release 1 - the beta version of me.edu.au (about 8 months through the process) and went back to both groups to find out if things had changed.
Hopefully we have built a system for users that can have further tools and functions added. But also one that is useful and supports and builds networks and their professional profile.

This is very exciting doing my very first blog post in me.edu.au
I cant wait to learn more about blogging and how to do it effectively. I often read people's blog but I don't tend to write. So this will be my space to get started and to spread my wings ... or my fingers ...
This will be a learning experience but I look forward to the journey.
