Flexbooks - an Alternative to ebooks?
Teachers around the country are evaluating ebooks as an alternative to print materials; some schools have developed sound policies with regards to ebooks and adopted one or more ebook readers. There are quite a few implications of course mostly to do with copyright and related issues. For schools that need an alternative to ebooks, there is now FlexBooks from CK12.org. Use of the CK-12 FlexBook System and FlexBooks are subject to a Creative Commons License. At this stage, Flexbooks are available in the areas of: Science ; Technology ; Engineering and Mathematics .
The Flexbook system offers a number of ways of access; they can be displayed as pdf , through an online viewer with quite a straight forward interface and in htm format or in print format. Chapter titles link to the start page for that chapter. Additionally you can make up a completely new textbook by selecting various chapters from separate titles, combine and assembly the chapters in any order you like, add prefaces, introductions, chapters list, etc and set it up as a FlexBook.
There are number of Webinars happening soon, so visit the CK12 website for the schedule starting from Nov. 23 to Dec. 16th.

Social Media in Learning - Twiitter
Up until a few years ago we used to have a different view of the social media (facebook, Twitter, delicious, YouTube, etc.). These days not only many teachers use social media to enhance and compliment their own professional learning but we seem to have a different outlook. Need a photo for that next project...?
Often when you are in a hurry for that particular photo to add to your online project, it takes you time to locate the right item. There is flickr of course but it's always good to have another locations that stores stock photos taken by amateur and/or semi-professional photographers starting out in the profession. Veezzlle.com is such a location. Still in its infancy but it promises to make available some great images.[Read More]

Create, Store, and Print worksheets, studysheets, exams and quizzes online.
Some four weeks ago I stumbled on Quizinator, which as the name implies, enables teachers and educators to freely create and store worksheets, study notes, exams, quizzes and questions, all online. It allows up to 250 questions, each with up to 10 answers as well as up to 25 documents. The questions of course can be assembled and grouped into worksheets and/or exams. The questions can be Multiple Choice, Short Answer, True/False and Yea/No while they can be classified by Subject, Catgeory, Level and Difficulty. Quizinator's drag and drop interface enables the user to create worksheets quickly and easily. The worksheets can be saved and prnted at anytime. For users of Moodle , these questions can be inserted by using the 'add a resources' dropdown window and clicking on link to a file or a website. This action will take you to the "Adding a new Resource" page. You can then upload the document from that page. Click on the Choose or Upload a file button and a new window will appear. Click on Upload a file and then select your test.pdf created in Quizinator.
