SEAA / SASOSE Conference February 2010

This was an inspiring conference with some great speakers and excellent opportunities for networking.

All of the keynote speakers were great. Each day had a related theme: Sustainability, Civics and Citizenship, and Social Justice. There were two fascinating panel discussions, one about educating for sustainability and one about projects involving students in action for social justice. Professor Brian Hoepper also led a great 'hypotheticals' about social justice.

 

Some key takeaways from the conference:

Money does not buy happiness, but the trick is to find how much you need and be satisfied with that. Having too much can lead to just as much unhapiness as having too little.

Religious And Racial Intolerance
Andrew Steiner, a survivor of the Holocaust, shared his story and spoke of his work in bringing knowledge of the Holocaust and the evils of racism to young people through art.

Integrating global perspectives across the curriculum
Cathy Mc Nicol - Curriculum Corporation
This workshop explored a very useful resource for studying the Pacific nations.

Talking Faiths: seeking student perspectives on
belief and identity in a multi cultural society.
