In October 2000, the European Commission wrote a memorandum on lifelong learning to help identify coherent strategies and practical ways to foster lifelong learning for all. At the heart of the memorandum are six key messages - the gaining of new basic skills, raising levels of investment in human resources, innovation in teaching and learning, valuing learning, guidance and information and bringing learning closer to home.
Education Network Australia (edna) is an example of a collaborative venture, which draws on education, librarianship and technology to build an on-line education community in Australia, and to present an Australian perspective to the world. This paper looks at how EDNA applies metadata, interface design and search technologies.
