I am a Teacher Librarian currently temporarily placed (TPT)at
Hendon Primary School.
We are on a Campus and service three primary schools and a
kindergarten. In total, wecater forsome 850 students plus
the staff. The layout of the current Resource Centre includes multiple
areas which have been added to over the past 20 years.Whilstthis
has given us a lot of space, the roomsdo not flow and fail to
work efficiently. They areat different levelsand contain
odd angles and corners. Our circulation desk is not only too low, it
is too small and poorly located. The work room is a good size but our
desk/ benches are at student height and the room has poor storage
facilities.
Linden Park Schools have a new reception to year
7 library.
After years of managing in two separate old
libraries, we think we have reached nirvana in this new site.
It's a new standalone building, centrally located
on the school site. It's spacious, light and airy with a
greatview of the city from the western window.
Combining the two libraries has been a challenge -
that term that covers all manner of trauma- but it is starting to
feel like a really busy and vibrant community place.
The down side is the fact that the new building
does not include a teacher resources area; these are housed in
satellite areas around the school. Maybe the new round of funding
will help add some extensions for the teacher resources.
It seems re-development never finishes!
