I played in the wikispaces site and decided I had enough information to have a go at using this in my classroom. I created a private site and added my students as members -the bulk upload of id/email/password combinations made things easy. The group I was using was a year 10 Information Technology class. The students were excited by the new experience, even though one of them was at pains to let me know that he knew far more about wikis than I did even if he admitted he didn't [..]
I was quite excited to 'have a go' at making a wiki following the u-tube video showing how easy and helpful it is for communicating in a group situation via the internet. With only 2 weeks until the Yr 12 exams, one of which is a home study week, I decided to make one just for my Biology class. It's been a while since my last post and it is time to address and finally evaluate how my wiki has fared up. Firstly, I have to say that I may reserve my final judgement on my wiki until after the VCE Revolutions exam on Thursday, where I hope to chat with the students informally and get their opinions on the Wiki-experiment. My project is finally starting to take shape. I've set the students the task of collaboratively creating a summary/revision tool for their upcoming Humanities exam, and we're commencing this week. I was inspired by the teacher in the earlier readings who had such success with a similar project, and this also reflects a current need for my student group.
