Hi Hanan, here are the url's for the Wiki sites made for our English students-a tad amateurish , but with practise improvement should be made. http://newcastlehighenglish.wikispaces.com/ http://year12nhs.wikispaces.com/ http://year11nhs.wikispaces.com/ http://year10nhs.wikispaces.com/ http://newcastlehighenglishyear9shakesp.wikispaces.com/ http://year8nhs.wikispaces.com/ http://year7nhs.wikispaces.com/
Hi Hanan, I have an idea for a Year 7 English project which would involve students as partners working together. Do I send it to you in embryo form or develop a Wiki with the details embedded on it? regards Chris

Hi Christopher how are your wikis going? what hints and reflections can you share in terms of setting up wikis for high school students? I have given your name out to a few people to search and add as colleagues so they can connect with others doing wiki with secondary students. cheers Hanan

HI Christopher, sorry for not getting back to you sooner, I have been on hoidays and am back on board again. I will hve good look tomorrow on your wiki site, don't worry about it looking abit amaturish, as it is the students work. Some of the best wiki I have seen have been constructed by the teacher, and to me that defeats the purpose if we want students to be the owners of the colloboration process. One of the things you might want to consider is how do the students self assess each other and give feedback. I will get back to you tomorrow on this. cheers Hanan

Hi Chris. Thanks for sharing the great English wikis. Unfortunately the comments and whiteboards here don't make web addresses active, but if you bookmark/share these as links in the English teaching community (use the search box above to search for English) then you can easily refer people there. Just click to join add this to your interests (ie join) and you should see the screen refresh to past the url in.

Hi Chritopher, I am keen to follow your blog entries, as you have some great ideas. what did you come up with as your final question as a team?

Hi Christopher - welcome to me.edu.au! Your wiki idea sounds really good as it would allow your students to construct their knowledge collaboratively and use some great online resources (google maps/earth, audio, video etc - if they are unblocked) in the process. You should check out the Country Profiles on the Global Education website http://www.globaleducation.edna.edu.au/globaled/go/pid/37 and also you may like to connect with others who are interested in Global Education in th community here on me.edu.au http://me.edu.au/c/global%20education

I have been giving some thought on how to construct a Wiki page which would be useful to most Primary schools and High school faculties and have come up with the following idea. Any responses and suggestions are welcome. As we are supposed to be in the age of globalisation, understanding of and empathy with students around the world should be enhanced. Students could select flag designs of a limited number of other countries without knowing to which countries the flags belong. The students could then embark upon research about the countries their flags represent. Obviously, geographical factors would furnish much material as would historical data. English would be served by discovering any folk tales, myths and legends connected with the selected countries. An investigation into their respective ways of life; clothing, families, houses, culture, expectations and experiences could be used as a springboard into creative writing exercises.
