About Me

Hello ! I am a teacher and an ICT mentor for teachers at Thornlie SHS, a public school in Western Australia (previously at Belmont City College) I tinker with ICT, particularly with Moodle and Web 2.0 tools. I run a blog called Human at http://tomazlasic.net, and bare my soul about teaching with technology. I also run a collection of brief Moodle 'how to's' called 2 Minute Moodles. You can get me on Twitter as 'lasic'

Provoke or inject (Tomaz Lasic bookmarked this item)
This image, scanned from The Weekend Australian magazine hit the chord with me today. I heard the lines written many times at my (now ex) school, I have seen kids who have fallen into this spiral and also seen the kids who stood up and resisted it well. Its a great reminder of what really [...]

For 'L' in Moodle (Tomaz Lasic bookmarked this item)
There is something I have been meaning to share with the world for the past few weeks. Today, I finally can. This afternoon, I accepted Martin Dougiamas kind offer to formally join Moodle as an Education Researcher. I will be concerned primarily with the pedagogical and andragogical aspects of using Moodle, and look at how (well) [...]

Sports Moodle (Tomaz Lasic bookmarked this item)
From 2000 to 2004, I ran an elite/development squad of female water polo athletes at the Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS). This was just one of the many parts of my 15-years long sports coaching career, from juniors to multiple Olympic medal winners.  I have very fond memories of the time but as I [...]

My f*#!%ing goosebump story (a reminder) (Tomaz Lasic bookmarked this item)
Now on the new site, I am re-posting something I wrote as a catharsis in 30 minutes, a year and a half ago. This is the post I am most fond and proud of, and has always reminded me of two things: why do we teachers (with an ed-tech bend) do the things we do [...]

No Child Left Blind (Tomaz Lasic bookmarked this item)
This week, I showed the series of classic clips A Class Divided in my Philosophy Ethics class. At certain points I paused the clips and asked questions like: Does this sound familiar? Is this you? Anyone you know? And pennies dropped I wanted to show that fighting any form of discrimination (in this case racism) [...]
Moodle Monopolife (Tomaz Lasic bookmarked this item)
Source: Lucky Roll http://www.flickr.com/photos/chaehbom/2246451899/ Its been a while since I wrote anything moodling but after this mornings class I cant help but quickly share this little gem. In my Year 9 and 10 classes (both deemed lower end, damned labels), I am trying to teach research skills, critical thinking skills and a bit of critical pedagogy to [...]
Human Eddies 2009 (Tomaz Lasic bookmarked this item)
Yep, its time for the annual Eddies ritual of nominating peers for this years Edublog Awards (nominations close on 8 December!). This is so hard! I think of the people mentioned below not as winners but rather as a particularly skewed list of people and connections that shape and help me think, learn and be. Best [...]
Using real world (Tomaz Lasic bookmarked this item)
I cant claim some sort of exclusive on this line, I think it belongs to Michael Wesch, collected through Twitter (where else!). But I just had to put it in a strip comic this afternoon. GoAnimate.com: Real World by moodlefan The tall person is meant to be a teacher, the small one a student. On the ground, [...]
